Why did my garage opener activate on its own?

In rare cases where the garage opener seems to activate on its own, the issue could be caused by either human error or aging garage opener components. Please refer to the following details.

  1. A neighbor's garage remote was inadvertently programmed to the garage opener.

First of all, if your garage opener has a LEARN button, you can erase the memory of your garage opener by pressing and holding the LEARN button for six seconds.

Then, please program your remote control and keypad again.

Note: If you have a Smart Control Panel that is compatible with Security+ 2.0 Garage Door Openers, you can view the number of remotes programmed to the opener by using the Service menu on your Smart Control Panel. This is a quick way to determine if additional remotes were inadvertently programmed to the garage opener prior to clearing its memory.

  1. A stuck button on the remote control.

First of all, if your garage opener has a LEARN button, please check to see if the LED indicator light by the LEARN button is continuously flashing quickly. If it is flashing quickly, this indicates that the garage opener is receiving a constant signal from a remote control.

Then, please remove the battery on your remote control and check the LED indicator light. If the LED indicator light stops flashing after you have removed the battery, this indicates that the issue was caused by a remote control with a stuck button.

  1. A shorted wall-mounted door control sending unwanted signals to the garage opener or logic board.

If the issue persists after you have erased the garage opener's memory and you have also confirmed that a button is not stuck on your remote control, then you will need to rule out your wall-mounted door control as the source of the issue. It is highly recommended to refer to the user manual and FAQ of the wall-mounted door control unit of the garage opener for further troubleshooting steps.
